Turkey Craft

100_5715

This is Selena’s turkey. She had to color it yellow so it is hard to see. I went out and found some of the dry leaves that had blown in on our porch. Using Selena’s fist, with her thumb sticking out we drew around her hand. She colored it first, Like I said she just had to have a yellow turkey, and as you notice she wouldn’t give him legs.

She then glued the leaves on for the tail feathers. Using clear contact paper we sealed it to make Selena’s Thanksgiving placemat. She wouldn’t wait for the leaves to dry before starting this part, so you can see our efforts to keep wrinkles out didn’t work real well. That’s OK, as I figure this is a good way for her to learn that each step in a project truly needs to be followed.

I do believe she is pretty proud of her project. She continues to say, “I love my hand turkey!”

Sunday Afternoon Craft

Selena missed church yesterday from her cold and the fact she couldn’t settle in and go to sleep Saturday night until 10:00. Papa wasn’t feeling real well either so he did not mind staying home with her.

When I got home I felt a craft was in good need for a restless little girl. I had her go find a sock that none of us wear. She appeared with an old sock slipper that use to be mine, that I had given her for play. We found a couple of googlie eyes. With markers Selena sat forth to decorate her sock puppet when she announced was a dinosaur.

What would a craft be without a snack to go with it. She even made sure her sock pocket had a little bite too.

Since it is a dinosaur, she then had to attack hoppy, the dog and anything else she could find that the dinosaur would want to eat. We tried to tell her to make it a nice dinosaur, but she insisted that it had to eat these things because he liked it. She cracks me up sometimes with her imagination.

Cutting Skills

100_3727

Selena is getting better at cutting. Normally we don’t do much for Halloween projects, but I thought a paper pumpkin would be fun and a good way for Selena to practice her cutting. Papa just needs to learn how to take pictures. Selena cut half of the pumpkin out herself. I just drew a white chalk line to form the shape for her to follow. I did have to help hold the paper, but she is definitely coming along way with her cutting skills.

100_3728 100_3729 When we were finished with our pumpkin, Selena was so proud since she did most of the cutting by herself, then glued it together. She did however wonder why we couldn’t cut the pumpkin open to see what was inside. I guess you know a real pumpkin will be coming again this year. Maybe this year we will do more with the seeds then we did last year, like maybe some math.

An Art and Craft That Selena Loved

We were going to go to the library today, but instead I got a call and had to go to Olympia to pick up the contrast for my up coming CT Scan (just so you know it is just a check up on my cancer, shouldn’t be anything to worry about.)
While we were in Olympia I decided to treat Selena to a walk through Joann’s Fabrics and just see what they had that might interest her. In their dollar baskets we found these cute little wood animals that came with three little markers and a stand.
After dinner I decided to let Selena color one. She chose to do her monkey first.

Selena so carefully colored in the bow, and worked for a good hour decorating her monkey. I have come to the conclusion that Selena is just going to do better with crafts if I just see that she has things like this and let her go at it, then if I try to plan any type of project.
100_3464 I doubt very much that Selena is totally finished decorating this as she is still coloring on it as I type this.
100_3465This is what it looks like on its stand. I can’t wait to see just what her little monkey looks like after she gets totally done decorating it. This might just end up being a weekend project just on this one little monkey.

I had to come back and post Selena’s other monkey that she colored.

100_3468 She informed me that she was only putting make up on. She even had marker on her eye lids. It did wash off thankfully!

The Letter "A"

Our first week working with the letter "A" we made apples on a stick. That was so exciting for Selena as she got to use actual glue instead of the glue stick. She loves to pretend she is eating the apple. After we made the apple on the stick we took a walk only to discover that just around the block from us is an apple tree. Selena talked about apple trees constantly, so I came up with the idea to finalize our unit on "A" by making our own apple tree. Then remember from my previous post Selena discovered the Ant to which she had a full conversation with. I found the most adorable (if you want to think of ants as adorable hmmm) stickers of ants, so I decided to allow her to put ants on her apple tree too. She had a blast counting all the Apples and all the Ants. (you might have to click on the picture to get a larger one to view the ants should you want to)
