The other day after making our Funny Animal Headband Selena discovered by accident that by cutting a folded piece of paper, then unfolding it she had a perfect tree shape. She of course tore it before I could get pictures. I decided it was a good time to get some cutting practice in and see what other things she could make cutting folded paper. I had some ideas in mind, but opted to just fold the paper and let her cut. The first shape she thought looked like a boat, so then she had to take another piece of folded paper and try to make a sail for her boat.

The second things she cut she thought both looked like shirts. The first one she just sat aside, but the second one she decorated with buttons. She then decided the first one needed to be glued on the second one like an apron.
I had so much fun watching her practice her cutting skills, while using her imagination to tell me what she was creating. I know we will be doing many more of these activities, and maybe next time I will draw a design for her to cut out and see what she thinks of that, maybe some pretty hearts for Valentines Day!
It's amazing how long scissors, and a few pieces of paper can keep a child busy for - if only the clean up didn't take as long :)

I like Selena's creations! We are going through a major cutting phase here too - folded paper, coloring and cutting, using Kumon cut and paste book. It's interesting to see how the skills really took off when they are ready for something new.
