Cutting Practice

The other day after making our Funny Animal Headband Selena discovered by accident that by cutting a folded piece of paper, then unfolding it she had a perfect tree shape. She of course tore it before I could get pictures. I decided it was a good time to get some cutting practice in and see what other things she could make cutting folded paper. I had some ideas in mind, but opted to just fold the paper and let her cut. The first shape she thought looked like a boat, so then she had to take another piece of folded paper and try to make a sail for her boat.

The second things she cut she thought both looked like shirts. The first one she just sat aside, but the second one she decorated with buttons. She then decided the first one needed to be glued on the second one like an apron.

I had so much fun watching her practice her cutting skills, while using her imagination to tell me what she was creating. I know we will be doing many more of these activities, and maybe next time I will draw a design for her to cut out and see what she thinks of that, maybe some pretty hearts for Valentines Day!

Some Fun Art

Give a child a blank head and some felt tip pins and see just how much fun she can have. Since it has been a long time since I have shown much of Selena’s art work on my blog, only because she tends to not be as creative when she knows that we will be posting about it. This project though I decided we would post. Selena has wanted to color this for sometime. Since it has been rainy and cold and we haven’t been able to get outside I surprised her by bringing out the markers, set this head on the table and said go for it.

Keeping busy! Now don’t ask why it has a green nose and green cheeks.

Had to have red lips.

Beautiful brown, yellow, orange, and purple hair!

Selena spent a good hour listening to music on the CD player, and coloring, decorating, singing, and was totally engrossed in this art project. Every time she said she was done, she would end up having to color more. This will probably be one of those that I will just leave open for her to color when ever she desires to. I don’t know if or when she will ever really finish it.

Art Corner

I thought I would jump in on the Art Corner Posted by Teaching My little one. Unfortunately when my husband and I moved into this house we never dreamt we would be raising another child so we didn't look for a child friendly home. All of Selena's art supplies are in these two bins so I have to drag them out every day and get out what she wants to work with. We don't have room as you can see from the picture below to set up an actual classroom setting, she does everything at the dining room table.

We hope sometime that we can move to a larger house so I can set Selena up her own little area for schooling and art.
