Back to School 2014

My plans to homeschool through the Summer did not work out as I planned. We took the Summer off and enjoyed being a family. While learning certainly did not stop in our home, we did put the books away and focused on exploring our world and having fun. We have had a very nice summer for a change so the opportunity to be outdoors, and actually enjoy warmer then normal temperatures was quite delightful.

Some of Selena's highlights of the Summer was having friends around all the time, and even meeting some new friends.

We had the pleasure of babysitting a friend of Selena's from the time she was a baby. We have had a lot of fun and have enjoyed having her here every day. We enjoyed going to the park, playing and more playing. We will continue to babysit but with some changes to the hours we will be together as school starts.

Selena enjoys going out almost everyday and visiting the horses here on our property, so I guess you know she was pretty overjoyed when they had pony rides at our local block party this year. She has such a passion for animals, horses especially and has began her own collection of "My Little Ponies." She even received a surprise gift from my best friend's daughter and granddaughter.

The highlights of my Summer was of course enjoying it with my family! I was able to see two dear daughters of my best friend, which I haven't seen in years. I traveled to Spokane on a "Girl Trip!"

Brought home lots of gifts for Selena, but I think her favorite gift was this sign that now hangs above her bed.
Before we start school here in our home though I have one more trip to take to Spokane for a baby shower. Selena is a little disappointed that she doesn't get to go with me, but we have a planned field trip in October to Spokane, and will meet up with her brothers at Greenbluff to have fun in the Orchards.

We are waiting for a few new pieces of curriculum to come in, after last year we decided to change a few things, our Spelling and English material, the rest will remain the same. Since we did not school through the Summer we still have a little bit of 2nd grade to finish up, then we will be off to 3rd grade. Our expected back to school date is around September 8th, after I get back from my trip. We have a lot of fun things planned, field trips, experiments, and plain joy in learning.

Back to School Ready

We enjoyed a fun time at the church’s annual block party. In years past we always missed this even for one reason or another, this year though, I was determined to get Selena over there. She had a lot of fun playing with all the children, and really proved her basketball abilities in their basketball challenge. I guess we have found one more sport to consider getting Selena into.

I’ve been really wanting to get back into school since we came home from vacation, but Selena just hasn’t had the mindset to sit down and study. We’ve had such beautiful weather that I truly do not blame her, but we will make ourselves get back into the classroom the first of September.

We have many changes in the process here, and while some are exciting some are sure to cause one little girl some anxieties and take a while to adjust. Papa will be finishing up the training of the new employee that will take his position and be moving to his new office here soon. This will also bring about a change in his work schedule, so I am sure it will take awhile for all of us to adjust.

I’ve been working hard to learn everything I need to learn for my new job as Property Manager. While it will be an ongoing learning process for me, we are also determining what aspects of this position I can do now and which ones I will have to wait until Papa retires to take on. I am just very thankful for a landlord who is willing to work with us on this aspect.

I’ve been shopping for a new computer, it is a goal that we have a few things that we want before Papa retires, such as new furniture, a new TV (which we got at Christmas), a new computer for me, and my old computer transferred over to it’s new user, Selena, and the last thing on the list is a tablet. I’ve narrowed my search for a computer down to this computer. I should have it within the next few weeks, then Selena will be the proud owner of my current computer.

Another goal of mine is to pay either more or less time with my blog. I know less time would probably mean I would step totally away from blogging, I won’t delete my blog and might update every so often. I have struggled with my blog over the past year and as Selena is getting older we really feel the need to allow her to make choices over the things we share about here on the blog. To pay more attention to my blog, may be in the form of completely moving forward to a different style of blogging. Will I keep it here or move to another blog is yet to be determined.

Back To School Shopping

Yes, I know I am on a Blog Vacation, but I had to share our back to school shopping day. As we left home yesterday determined to get a head start on back to school shopping, Selena announced she wanted her hair cut too. I agreed and we stopped to get  her hair cut. I asked her how she wanted it cut and she said she wanted her bangs cut short. When it came time to actually getting it cut she informed the little gal cutting her hair, she only wanted them a little shorter, and showed her a quarter of an inch. You will see in the pictures she looks no different then before she got her hair cut.

We picked out 5 outfits, and got the rest of the supplies on her list. Well, almost all of the supplies on her list, since they asked for 10 white glue sticks, well come to find out all we could find were purple glue sticks. I finally found packs that had 3 white and 3 purple, so I got two of them and said that will just have to do as I was not driving clear to Olympia just to look for glue sticks.

Well, here comes the fun part, Selena modeling her new outfits. We still want to get a couple more pair of pants, and she still needs shoes.

I think she did very well picking out her outfits. I do think that the blue one is just adorable on her, while I do love them all for some reason that blue one is just the cutest little outfit I have seen. Of course I think all of you who have been following us can guess the outfit that she bought for the first day will definitely match her back pack…yes, that is right she ran for the Hello Kitty dress.

We did have fun shopping for back to school, and I know she is going to enjoy when she finally gets to wear all her new clothes, for now though they are in the closet until school starts in exactly 4 weeks.
