We got a surprise when Uncle T.J. said he was coming over. They arrived on Monday with his girl friend. I guess you know Selena was very anxious to see him again. He couldn’t even get out of the car before she was diving for his arms.
She truly was in seventh heaven, nearly in tears as their eyes met. We had a very nice evening visiting with pizza for dinner and a lot of reading going on from Selena.
The following day we took off and headed for Astoria, Oregon. We enjoyed the drive down with a stop to see the Lady Washington in port. It was pretty cool they let us come down and get a good up close look at her, though they had a huge hole in the side of her that they were repairing.
From there we headed straight for the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better beach day. As you can see in the pictures above it was gray and cloudy, but when we got closer to the beach the skies were blue, no wind, and it was truly fairly warm. T.J. had never seen the Ocean before so he had a huge surprise when we topped over the dune and he got his first glance at the waves.
We all had a blast playing in the waves. TJ’s girlfriend coming from California, took off her shoes rolled up her pants and couldn’t get far enough out the beach to have the waves hit around her. TJ thought it was fun until the water went over the top of his boots and then he got quite the shock as his boots filled up with water.
TJ finally figured it out and left his boots on the beach far enough from the water that they wouldn’t get washed away.
After the beach we took the long drive to Astoria, Oregon. We went straight up to the Astor Column.
They even carried Selena clear up to the top of the Astor Column before we made our trek home. I think out of it all though the best picture I will remember is the look on my son’s face when he first saw this:
Looks like a great mini-vacation!
ReplyDeleteI am glad it was such an exciting get together. It's amazing that your son had never seen an ocean living relatively close to it. Perhaps now he will be motivated to come more often :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great vacation! I had to laugh about the boots.
