We woke up yesterday morning and Selena wanted to make sure we did the pumpkin. She couldn’t wait to finish breakfast and run in and get dressed for the occasion. She could hardly wait for us to get things set up so that she could dig in.
She tried very hard to pull the top of the pumpkin off herself. She worked and worked until finally she gave up and asked Papa for help.
I don’t know what it is about pumpkins, it doesn’t seem to matter how many you open up the sheer joy and surprise on a child’s face is always so wonderful. Even though they know what to expect it seems like a little bit of Christmas to see just how that top is coming off.
This year instead of digging right in to clean her pumpkin Selena chose to pick one seed at a time.
I didn’t think we would ever get our pumpkin cleaned out. She refused to allow me to help her. Let’s just say it took quite awhile, well until she got tired of picking out pumpkin seeds. While I finished cleaning the pumpkin I put Selena to work on counting and putting her seeds on a cookie sheet. Even with Papa’s help that ended with Selena dumping the seeds into a pile and saying that was good enough.
She had a lot of fun once again with her pumpkin. Now she is demanding pumpkin pie and pumpkin cookies. I guess you know I will be cooking and baking for the next couple of days.
One seed at a time? Kids can be so funny!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine how long that would take. I remember my class counting pumpkin seeds and we got up to 500 something.....
ReplyDeleteIt does look like she had a good gooey time!
