Pattern Blocks

We hadn’t played with our pattern blocks in a while. Selena seemed like she had lost interest in them. I thought it would be fun to break the “I don’t know what to do” time just before she is to go to bed. I thought it was amazing how far her fine motor skills have improved since the last time we played with these. While she loved them, she always struggled a bit in getting the blocks just right to form the pattern without my assistance.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of her first attempts at actually making the picture puzzle with her pattern blocks. I thought I did but couldn’t find one. Anyway she spent a half hour playing with them all by herself. What use to be sorting, counting how many she would need to make the picture, she just sat down and started putting the puzzle together.

She didn’t stop until she had it all finished. She has now found a new found love for her pattern blocks. As she used them she would call out the shapes she knew and always ask about the ones she wasn’t too sure on.

It is always so much fun when we can watch and visually see the growth in our child. Something that use to be somewhat of a struggle suddenly becomes so much easier.

  1. It's been a while since we last pulled out the pattern blocks. Maybe we will do that today.

  2. I too love seeing how the children have grown over time and can do things with ease that they struggled with earlier. Glad she now enjoys the activity. The pattern blocks are something I really want to get but haven't been able to justify getting financially yet. Maybe soon.
    Have a great day. Blessings

  3. I was just thinking I needed to come up with things to do in the witching hour and pattern blocks would be a good idea

  4. I also love when daughter rediscovers old toys. She usually builds "picture of the weeks" with her pattern blocks on the fridge. She liked the last one so much though that she refuses to take it down for a while now ;)
