The Homeschool Mother’s Journal #2

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

.In my life this week…

This has been one of those weeks where I felt like all I did was chauffer everyone in the family to one appointment and then another. It makes it pretty hard to get much done around home or even much homeschooling except what lessons we can fit in while driving. When I wasn’t busy driving I was hard at work helping to get everything ready for our Church’s taco feed this Sunday. We have at this point fried up 22 pounds of meat and I have 12 pounds of refried beans to heat up on Sunday morning. The men are in charge of chopping lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Hey they need to do something too. On a happy note though through all this business I did take time to go get my hair highlighted, needed to cover those grays that are just making me feel old. “Age gracefully” now who said that? Oh that’s right my mom did, but I am sorry aging gracefully is one thing, but I think I would rather age with my own type of grace.

In our homeschool this week…

Selena has been working very hard to learn the books of the bible. Since she has now started Sunday School, her competitive side is coming out. She just can not have a 2nd grader showing her up. So far she has the first 12 books memorized, and can even locate them in the bible. She is also starting to discover the world of writing, and is often found writing her name or other words on everything, well everything she knows she can write on.

My favorite thing this week was…

First was being able to share with Selena the Tall Ships full mask heading up the river. Selena has seen them from a distance with their sails down, so she was pretty excited to see them and to call them her pirate ships “ARG!” The second favorite thing this week, was finding out I had made it on the TOS crew. I am truly looking forward to see what this adventure will hold for us in our homeschool.

What’s working/not working for us…

Usually by now we are studying nature, having fun outside, hiking and exploring the world around us. Spring is slow in coming to our neck of the world right now. Selena is getting frustrated with this, and is complaining a lot about still studying in the house. She has her good days, when the sun is out. Only to be disappointed the next day when the clouds and rain are back. So far our nature studies have been very scattered, and sometimes a total wash out.

  5. This is a lovely picture of Selena! Your rain will travel to us over the weekend - for some strange reason bad weather always seem to strike over the weekend. Hopefully you will see more sunshine soon.
