What My Child is Reading

We need to get back to the library, one thing that was on my to do list this week, but however, it just didn’t happen. I thought I would share the newest books to join Selena’s library of “I can read books”.

Eloise Eloise Breaks Some Eggs by Kay Thompson is probably Selena’s favorite book at this point. This book is about a little girl who lives in the City, though it is not stated in the book, the theme leads to believe that she is a rich city child. Her Nanny tries to teach her things she will need to know like cooking. Her attempt to learn to cook truly ends up with a happy Eloise, a upset cook and Nanny, but ends with Eloise explaining she will never starve so long as she has room service.

The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss is probably the hardest books that is found in her pile, but she proudly reads it word for word. I think we all know the story about The Cat in the Hat so I won’t bore you with the details. I will just say it is so awesome to hear Selena as she reads this book and to know that it truly is her reading skill and not from memory, as this is one book that I just couldn’t bear to read. I am not a huge Dr Seuss fan, but Selena loves the books.

Greeneggs Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss is probably one of the easier reads that Selena has in her pile. I recently pulled it out from her it’s little spot on her book shelf, and Selena rejoiced as she was able to easily read this book all by herself.

She is really starting quite a collection of “Read by Myself” Books and of course she wants them all piled on her bed. I keep telling her if she doesn’t start finding someplace to keep her books other then on her bed, she won’t have a bed to sleep on. Yet still she loves to read herself to sleep, and some nights she reads every book she has in there. We often find her in her bedroom sitting quietly just reading through the day. It is always a joy when a child discovers the joy of reading.

I am linking this up at Natalie’s, Mouse Grows Mouse Learns.

  1. We have an Eloise Christmas book. The children love her, but she is not my favorite character - she's very naughty.

  2. I love those two Dr. Seuss, some of his others not as much, but those are my favorites.

    I'm undecided on Eloise.

  3. We have an Eloise book, but I haven't read it yet.

I love Dr. Seuss books for my kids to read. The repetitive and rhyming text is so helpful to new readers!

  4. I agree - watching Anna read to herself is awesome and sometimes almost unbelievable. She likes Dr Seuss too and often asks for his books in the library.

  5. I remember loving Eloise when I was a kid, but I've never read any besides the original.

  6. It must be wonderful to hear your child truly reading. My son is just entering the stage of reading from memory. I want to treasure each moment.

  7. How fun to experience the beginning reader. Green Eggs and Ham is one of my favorites! And my son's favorite. He just has some of it memorized and I think that's cute!
