Math Links/Phase Ten Dice

phase10

I pulled out our Phase 10 dice game. The basic rules of the game is to role the dice to make specific sets or runs of numbers. It is just like the Phase 10 card game but played with dice. With Selena however we just focused on building our number line. She caught on real quick that W on the dice was wild and could be used for any number in her number line. She would only build them from 1-10 while we tried to show her that she could pull the dice out of order until she got all 10 numbers that just didn’t make sense to her. We will have to work on that. I can see a lot of different options we can do with this game, so you might be seeing a lot of different games for a while.

100_3779 Selena got so excited when she rolled and the numbers she was looking for was in the box. At one point she decided she just wanted the W dice.

100_3780I don’t know why this picture turned out so blurry but this is how she lined them up as she pulled them out of the box. We didn’t name any specific number of rolls on this introduction to the game, but I do think we will have to experiment and limit the number of rolls we all take, so as to make it a little more competitive.

I believe she enjoyed this game as much as she does Yahtzee.

I am linking this up at Joyful Learner.

  6. I try to mix games in with school activities as much as I can for my preschooler. This is one we haven't tried yet. It looks perfect for number recognition. Thanks for sharing it.
