It is always so refreshing when we go to the library and bring home new books. Selena just seems to know when it is time to take the books back and just begs to go. She is beginning to feel to comfortable at the library these days though, and I often find her migrating from the toy area to go visit with the librarian and to follow her around. She has been warned if this continues she will not be able to go with me to the library, I will go when Papa is home to keep her.
Little Bitty Mousie by Jim Aylesworth illustrations by Michael Hague is a book we had previously read. At that time Selena was only luke warm to it. It is a ABC book but unlike first ABC books this one introduces more complex words. It is a cute story about a little mouse and her adventures through a house. Selena picked up on the ABC words this time, and really enjoyed the story. I would reccommend this book for any 1st grader reader learning the little more difficult words, such as Lipstick, Ketchup, Slippers, Quarter, etc…
Natalie at Mouse Grows Mouse Learns reviewed this book in fact her and Anna made a craft based on this book. The Little Squeegy Bug by Bill Martin Jr. Truly is a very cute story about a bug who wants to be a bumble bee. The bumble bee teases him by telling him a little white lie on how to become a bumble bee. It is a cute story about the ambition of this little Squeegy Bug and how far he will go to become what he considers to be an amazing bug. Selena absolutely loved this book. She couldn’t put it down after we read it through the first time.
Pinkalicious by Victorian Kann and Elizabeth Kann is another book that Natalie at Mouse Grows Mouse Learns reviewed. At first Selena wasn’t sure about this book. She sat and listened and had many questions about how such things could really happen. Then when we got to the surprise ending Selena cracked up laughing and begged for it to be read again. The second time around Selena laughed through the entire story.
I am linking this to Mouse Grows Mouse Learns.
Pinkalicious is another book I keep seeing good reviews for, but we haven't checked out, yet. Our must-read-list is getting soooo long :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that Selena enjoyed Pinkalicious and The Squeegy Bug. I admit that I didn't like the message of Pinkalicious about green veggies being a yucky medicine, but overall it's a fun read. Thanks for joining WMCIR!
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big fan of the abc books, but my little guy is, so we'll have to check it out! I'm guest-hosting Feed Me Books Friday at my blog this week - hope you can come share!
