Science Sunday/Sink or Float

We got a huge surprise today, the clouds cleared out and we had a beautiful sunny day! Of course you know we had to venture out to have some great fun. I forgot my camera in the house, but Selena had fun pulling weeds out of the flower bed, while she talked to the men on top the neighbor’s house as they finish up the roofing. Finally I decided it was time for some water fun, this is why:

100_3222 Can you find Selena in there somewhere? No wonder our trees are changing the dirt is so dry from lack of rain, even though it hasn’t been that hot, and you know what happens to dry dirt when you throw it in the air.

It didn’t take long before most of the dirt was washed off, I say most of it because her face around the eyes especially was still quite dirty when we came in to eat dinner.

While she was playing in the pool she discovered that certain things float, while other things sink.

For as much as I tried to explain this concept to Selena she just didn’t get it, so we just had fun trying to figure out different things that would float.

I quickly thought I would love to really push Selena’s curiosity and told her we were going to make rocks float. She looked at me so funny, since she knew all they were doing was sinking.

Then we had a great discussion as to why putting the rocks in the plastic egg made them float. Finally Selena just informed me that it was like a boat. Well, you know what that was just the answer I was looking for.

We are suppose to have a very nice weekend, so I ran and got water balloons. You might really get some fun pictures once Selena gets introduced to the idea of water balloons.

  1. It's great that you got some water play again. We are definitely getting out to the pool later today after our so-called nap.

  2. That will be fun to see! I haven't really done water balloons with mine yet. Definitely this summer.

Have her try and predict what will happen with a pumpkin. That will totally shock her.

Isn't it great to be able to find a ready made lesson just by living life.
