We truly have had a lot of great books here the last couple of weeks. I think Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse was Selena’s number one pick though. I must admit that even Papa and I both enjoyed this book as well. Written by Rebecca Jann and illustrated by Lynne Avril, this book is in so many ways true to the life of a little girl. Oh come on how many little girl’s don’t at one point in life ask for a horse, literally beg for a horse? The girl in this story is no different. Finally her birthday rolls around and her parents present her with her new horse, though it isn’t the type of horse she wanted, but she finds out that through a little imagination the dream and fun of having something you want doesn’t have to ever go away.
A Small Brown Dog with a Wet Pink Nose by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen and Linzie Hunter, is a busy book, doesn’t the title kind of give you a clue there? It is however a cute book that did at first come with a tiny bit of apprehension on my part, but as we read through the story, It brought many laughs. It is a story about a little girl who wants a dog so bad that she asks her mom and dad daily for one and always gets the same answer of no. Through a cute and ingenious way of twisting her questions around she finally gets her way and they bring home a puppy. At first I didn’t care for the concept of how the little girl manipulated her parents, but the story was cute that the manipulation truly lost it’s emphasis in the story line.
Selena picked out Night Night Cuddly Bear by Martin Waddell illustrations by Penny Dale. She informed me that this was her new story book for bed. It is a cute book about a little boy who goes through a ritual every night of hiding his teddy bear. He will not go to bed until everyone in the house is asked “Where is the Bear?” Mom knows exactly where the bear is every night and always saves bedtime. It is cute, but I didn’t really think that it was as age appropriate for Selena and I don’t think she enjoyed it as well as she thought she would. This might be a great story for a younger child though.
I am linking this up at Mouse Grows Mouse Learns and Little Sprout Books.
Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse would be perfect here. After our horse back riding last weekend, several of mine would like a horse -although they assure me they might settle for a hamster, instead :)
ReplyDeleteI think all of those would be wildly popular here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining WMCIR! All three books look great and new to us. I am putting the first one on my request list in the library.
ReplyDeleteWe may have to check out the bear story. B has a "baby" who is often hiding before bed...
