What My Child is Reading

We didn’t get to the library this week with everything that has been going on with Selena, she is doing great, has been little trooper, and everything is going along great with the treatments we have had to endure, well she has had to endure.

Anyway I went to our hidden little shelf and pulled out a few books, yes, I have a hidden shelf that is full of books that she has no idea we have. We read them then they return to my shelf, until later use with reading in schooling.

My Dog

My Dog’s the Best by Stephani Calmenson, Illustrations by Marcy Dunn Ramsey is a level 1 reader. I selected this book and the next book as Selena has built so much confidence in her reading skills, so I wanted her to know that now she can read more then just Biscuit books. This is a cute story about children trying to explain why their dog is the best. They go through the entire process of having a dog show.

My Pal My Pal Al by Marcia Leonard, illustrations by Dorothy Handelman is a phonic based story for Pre-K to first grade. It is a story about a girl and her best friend a stuffed bunny. Selena enjoyed this book and learned a few new words. She was thrilled to realize that she can truly read more and more.

Johnny Now that Selena has the attention span and is enjoying longer books, I selected Johnny Appleseed by Patricia Demuth, illustrations by Michael Montgomery. It is a book that would be perfect for a first or second grade reader. I don’t think much description needs to be said about who Johnny Appleseed is, but I will say I like the fact that this books makes a real point of introducing him as a boy much like any child. Selena found that she could read quite a bit out of this book on her own, and was real intent on asking questions about the words she struggled with. But all and all she just loved when I read this book to her.

I am linking up at Natalie’s from Mouse Grows Mouse Learns.

  3. Thanks for joining WMCIR! We have a hidden stash too - unfortunately, Anna knows now where it is and from time to time attempts to raid it. I really need to relocate it. We haven't read anything about Johnny Appleseed yet - maybe we will do it next fall when apple season starts.
