stART Elmo’s Blanket

Elmo

Selena and I rediscovered this book last week, while we were going through all our books. With no library books in the house Selena was excited to discover this old favorite. She read it everyday. Selena is becoming very independent in her reading and is often found reading her stories to her stuffed animals when she thinks we are out of ear range. She is getting pretty good at retelling the stories in her own words.

We read this story together this morning, with Selena’s version of the story on every page.

I then gave her an old cloth diaper and told her she could make Elmo a blanket. I started it by writing Elmo’s name on it and Selena finished it.

Selena was pretty excited to think she had made a blanket for Elmo and quickly wanted to display it on the wall, I suggested we allow Elmo to play with his blanket, just like Selena plays with her blanket.

  1. Very cute and love the pictures. It cracked me up that Selena wanted to display it as art. Anna is the opposite - if she can't play with her art, she is not really interested in making it.

  4. Great project! I love that its something besides paper. And thats great that she is reading to her dolls. I've heard that really increases their confidence. At my library they have a program where children can read to a trained dog, its pretty neat. How old is Selena if you don't mind my asking?

  8. Too cute! I haven't seen that book before. I will definitely need to look for it, seeing as Elmo is one of my sons favorite characters!
