The Homeschool Mother’s Journal #4

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

.In my life this week…

I guess in some ways we have remained on break from a lot of schooling here. We didn’t get the rains that were predicted, while the temps have still be cooler then normal, we have enjoyed some nice sun breaks. While we did not get outside like I would have liked to since Selena’s allergies kicked in.

I have been busy planning the Summer bulletin board for church, now to just go see what we have already and what I will need to pick up. I have also been working on ideas for my Sunday school classroom. It is pretty blah right now as it is, so I want to liven it up. The kids and I discussed last week how we would like to see the classroom look, feel, and what type of activities they would like to see that would go along with the lesson. They came up with the ideas of having story time in the corner while sitting on mats on the floor, a little more music, arts and crafts, and a game. All of these ideas are pretty much what I was thinking, so now to just get to the church and make it happen!

In our homeschool this week…

We enjoyed free learning through play this week. I had fun watching Selena use her imagination to bring all her new ideas to life, through block building, playing with her magna doodle, and rediscovering some books she hasn’t read in a while. Listening to her read so independent now is music to my ears. She reads almost anything she picks up, of course she still enjoys family reading time.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Last Saturday we drove through the back roads and discovered more beauty in our backyard. We even found a lake we didn’t know was there, Selena discovered a bridge she just loves. While our first trip through she felt that we were lost, she was begging yesterday to take the drive again.

My favorite thing this week was…

Enjoying a wonderful tea party with Selena. Time to reflect, talk, and connect. Listening to her sing Hosanna, and praying thanking God for Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins, who now lives in heaven, and who gave her a piggy bank that she just loves.

What’s working/not working for us…

Having a 4 year old who is not feeling real well from allergies.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

For me the best part of homeschooling is having so much time to just be us, watching Selena desire to learn, and do it in such a natural manner.

Nothing like a freshly groomed pup, who is so happy to be home, feels so good with his new look, and smells oh so good.

  3. I feel for Selena - this time of year I wouldn't be able to even walk outside where you live without sneezing, eyes swelling shut, and hives breaking out. One more reason I love Montana's dry climate. I never knew apple blossoms had a smell until we moved here :)

  6. I hope we will get the tea party too one of these afternoons. I hope allergies will go away soon, so you can enjoy more time outside.
