The Homeschool Mother’s Journal #3

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

We have had a beautiful sunshiny week. I am so thankful that we have been able to just put down all school and get out and play. We never once even thought about what we could learn about, we just had a week of joyful laughter, climbing, crawling, fun, and hours of warm sun. It just lightens my soul to watch Selena having so much carefree fun. The sun was much needed for all of us, and I truly enjoyed just being outside. Of course with all the time spent outside, I didn’t accomplish a lot of the things I had on my list to do inside, but you know what it will still be there next week when the rains are suppose to return. To me it is more important to enjoy the time we have laughing and playing, so long as my home doesn’t look like a pig sty.

In our homeschool this week…

While we took the week off, learning is truly a full time job. Selena learned that she could climb the tall ladder this year and go down the big slide by herself. She was so very proud of her accomplishment and I must say I was too. She enjoyed playing with all her new ideas and it was fun watching just how much of our schooling she does apply now to her everyday life.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We managed to fit in a little league game. The ball park is only a couple of blocks from us and we hear them playing every evening. With our Pastor’s boys both playing on different teams I really thought it would be fun for Selena to experience the thrill of watching her friends play baseball. It was so funny to listen to her correct their mom on such terms as the dug out, not the wooden building type thing, among other fun facts about the game she has picked up from watching baseball with her Papa.

My favorite thing this week was…

Of course the sun! Besides that was the friendship shared among the mom’s at the ball park. It is so nice to watch our children grow together, and to share a common ground with other adults. The first few years of a child’s life can sometimes seem pretty lonely, when one is keeping to a schedule of naps, meals, and especially being a grandmother raising their grandchild, it is hard to find just the group of other parents that will except you in.

What’s working/not working for us…

We had our reservations about Selena starting Sunday school being that she truly would not be allowed to start Kindergarten for yet another year with how her birthday falls. She has done super though, and while she does get the wiggles a little more then the other kids, who yes, are older it has been nice to see how the older kids are so willing to step up and help out with her as well.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I really don’t have much for this section this week. We have made up our mind on the phonics, and math program that we will use for next year. We will continue with the materials we already have and the library resources for everything else.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
