Selena has been asking for Math, Math and more Math. I thought it was time to teach her to count by 10’s. I took 11 bottle caps and numbered them 0 through 10. I gave Selena the numbers 1 through 10 and asked her to put them in a straight line and in order.
Of course that was very easy for her to do, but she still had fun with it. I then took the cap with just the 0 on it. I asked her what number it was and she said zero. I sat it by the 1 and asked her now what number do we have, she announced 10. I then had her move the 0 down the row. She quickly discovered it was going in the pattern of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. She had so much fun with this that she practiced and played with this little game for 20 minutes.
After all this practice, I had Selena count by tens without the aide of the 0 bottle cap. Now she is running around counting by 10’s up to 100 at least.
