Homemade Jigsaw Puzzle

After seeing several posts on homemade jigsaw puzzles, especially this one at Leah’s and many other posts where she has used empty cereal boxes. I just love her blog for the wonderful ideas she has. I thought right away I wanted to make Selena a jigsaw puzzle using a cereal box, but I forgot to tell Papa what I was saving the box for. I guess you know he scooped it up and threw it away even though I had sat it in my laundry room out of the way.

On Saturday I was really feeling rather lazy so we has Stauffer’s Mac & Cheese, this time I didn’t give Papa a chance to throw my box away. I quickly cut a jigsaw puzzle out of it. Now Selena had a complete picture of what her jigsaw puzzle would look like when she finished.

She spent quite a bit of fun taking her puzzle apart and putting it back together again. She truly thought it was neat that the finished puzzle did indeed look like the big picture. She even had to teach Papa how to put it together. Papa was surprised that I had made this and asked me how I did it. Maybe now he will ask or think twice before throwing an empty box out again.

  1. You could also have her draw a picture on the back of the box before you cut it out. Then she would have a two-sided puzzle!

  3. I love this idea. Maybe the next time we get cereal I'll get one of those annoying cartoon ones and make it a puzzle

  4. We have a box of cereal with a Tangram puzzle on it that we're waiting to cut out. Never thought of using a whole image from a box and turning it into a puzzle.

  5. My son will sit with a pile of puzzles and do one right after another. It's definitely his "thing". I'll have to make some of these to keep him entertained. Great and easy idea!

  6. It makes me sad to have to toss an empty box - there soooo much fun to be had with them! I love Selena's look of concentration :)
