The Woman’s Retreat

I had a good time with Miss Kim at the Woman’s retreat. It really was the first opportunity that we have had to just get to know each other. Though she was suffering from a terrible cold, and I was not feeling my best, we really made the best of the our time together.

This was one of the largest retreats I have ever attended bringing women in from Washington, and Oregon. I believe the total head count was 119 women there. We had a nice dinner of salad, soup and homemade dinner rolls. The speaker was from Tillamook, Oregon. She did a very good job and I really enjoyed listening to her.

The theme was “A Total Makeover.” It was awesome how the women of the church had decorated the church. They chose to make it look as if every corner of the church was under construction. There were surprises around every corner. Each of us came home with a wooden hammer, or as some will know it called a Honey Do List holder along with a Spanish Lavender plant. Hmmm I am going to have to research that a bit, since while I have heard of lavender plants, I have never heard of a Spanish one before.

I feel my night away was good all around. While it gave Miss Kim and I the opportunity to get to know each other, and a break from our children, it also provided a good time for our children to bond with their fathers or in Selena’s case Papa. I know when we had a little break I called just to see how things were going. While Papa was trying very hard to convince me that things were going fine, I could hear in his voice just a little, “When are you coming home?” tone. They had a very nice day to spend together since the skies cleared and the sun came out. There was a lot of swinging, bike riding, and general outside play.

It was great to get home to see the excitement on our children’s faces as we pulled up, you know there is nothing more special then the way their faces can just light up with so much joy upon your arrival. I know that Selena shed a few tears as she hugged me and kissed me. To me I would have to say that was the best part of the entire experience. Sometimes we just need to step away, come home and receive such a warm welcome to fully appreciate the role we play in our family’s lives. Yes, I got a very nice welcome home from Papa too, and I do believe he even gained a little more understanding on what it is like to walk in my shoes for a couple of days.

I truly appreciate him for giving me this opportunity to get away. His willingness to step up and take on the load truly did not go unappreciated. However, with all that said it is very good to be home. It was fun and great just to be around other women, but it truly was nice just to get home.

  2. My husband reminded me just recently that I have never spent one day away from JC. He's feeling the pain because JC and I will be away without him for 12 days. I used to go on church retreats when I was young. Maybe during the new year, I should take at least one weekend retreat with my friends.

  3. I definitely think it is important to both the child and the parent to have some time away from each other. It certainly helps you to appreciate each other when you have the experience of missing each other. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

  5. It sounds like it was a good experience all around. I agree the sense of reunion and rediscovery of each other is great - I am so enjoying all the extra hugs, kisses and "I love you"s that my daughter is showering me and Lars with :)
