When I read the review for The Very Fairy Princess book by Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton, that Natalie at Mouse Grows Mouse Learns did a few weeks back, I knew that this would be a book that Selena would enjoy, so I requested it at the library.
Selena enjoyed the story about a little girl who thought she was a Very Fairy Princess, no matter what everyone else said. In many ways the book reminded me of Selena herself, the way she has always loved princesses, calls her dresses princess dresses, and knows that her Papa thinks that she is the best little princess.
We decided we just had to make some fairy wings. Though ours turned out looking more like a butterfly, Selena tried to have fun with it. I say that as once she got into the middle of the project she decided it wasn’t as fun as she thought it would be, I really had to encourage her to keep her going to get them done.
I cut out two wings and punched holes down the center of them, where they would be connected together. We used pink and purple confetti, glue and pink and purple pipe cleaners that were twisted together.
We first had to put the glue on, and sprinkle the smaller purple confetti in the center parts of each wing, Selena didn’t care much for the mess that this made, as she is trying to pick off the ones that didn’t go where she thought they should.
At this point, Selena decided she just wanted to get the craft over with, so she just dumped the large pink confetti all over the craft, the floor, and of course her lap.
After they dried, I laced the pipe cleaners in place, and fastened them on with a dab of glue.
Selena enjoyed the final project once it was all finished, and is looking forward to it drying all the way so we can hang it on the wall.

I don't think I've thought about it before, but all fairy wings look a lot like butterflies
ReplyDeleteOh my would Princess love that. It turned out super cute.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful set of wings. We haven't read this book by Julie Andrews yet but it looks cute.
ReplyDeleteI have to find this book! Reagan will love it. The wings came out so pretty! Great project.
ReplyDeleteGreat lacing project. So glad my eldest is out of her "fairy phase", but I'm sure we're about to go through it again with my little one. :) I haven't seen that book yet, but I'll have to check it out. Love Julie Andrews.
ReplyDeleteThose are very pretty wings...love the girly colors.
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous and I must keep an eye out for that book. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds wonderful. The wings are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love Julie Andrews! I must get the book for JC who loves fairies or at least wants to be a fairy. The wings came out beautiful! This would make a great project for JC while I scrapbook.
ReplyDeleteIt cracked me up that Selena rushed to get out of the project, but it turned out beautifully. Anna doesn't care much about the projects that involve glue lately either, and since she already doesn't care about painting, our options are quite limited indeed.
