After reading a few posts especially from Leah, who I just marvel at how she manages her home with 6 children and homeschooling on top of that, and Natalie who works full time but yet always spends so much time with her daughter, I decided to share how things work in our home.
First let me tell you one of the disadvantages of being a grandparent raising one’s grandchild is not always easy. I think for me the hardest struggle has been making it all work, getting everything accomplished while seeing that everyone’s needs are met.
Here is a look into our lives and how I manage it all.
5:15 I wake up to see that my husband gets off to work. This is also my blogging time, the time I try to get around and read and comment on all of your blogs.
7:30 Selena wakes up. I now am full steam into getting beds made, the two of us dressed, and breakfast made.
8:30 While Selena gets to watch a couple of cartoons, I am putting my laundry in to wash, and giving the kitchen and bathroom a quick wipe down.
9:30 We begin schooling, which has a schedule all it’s own.
11:00 Again yes Selena gets to watch a couple of cartoons, and I start lunch prep. We eat lunch at 11:30 and go down for nap or quiet time by 12:00.
1:00 If Selena has actually taken a nap, I am up before her and will use this time for folding the laundry, and some more computer time. If Selena only had quiet time, then she is up and is willing to help fold clothes.
2:00 Selena is definitely up now, especially if she took a nap. We will do some reading, go to the library, shopping, or play games depending on what is on the schedule for the day, and what we feel like doing.
3:00 Depending on the day I might vacuum and dust, deep clean the kitchen and bathroom.
4:00 Start dinner
5:00 to 5:30 Depending on what time Papa gets home we eat.
6:30 Do the evening dishes, no I do not have a dishwasher so these are washed by hand. Sometimes Papa is the greatest and does this for me.
7:00 Family Time
8:30 Selena goes to bed
9:00 This is the time I use to type my blog posts and schedule them to post
10:00 Bed Time!
My School schedule as I mentioned looks something like this
Mondays Math, Reading
Tuesdays Geography/History, Reading
Wednesdays Handwriting, Math, Reading
Thursday Science, Math, Reading
Friday Free day sometimes we use this day to catch up on things we didn’t accomplish during the week.
Every school day is started with the Pledge of Allegiance, Bible, and Calendar time. Reading consists of phonics, and reading. We do lack in arts and crafts at times, but I try to fit these in as Selena desires.
This schedule for the most part works very well allowing us weekends free from much to do at all, so that we can spend time as a family. I do want to mention though that without the help from Papa, I don’t think I would get it all accomplished. He is great at helping with dishes, laundry, the vacuuming, entertaining Selena, and he always does all the yard work.
It isn’t always easy to stick to this schedule but we strive to keep our home working to the best of our ability as we can. The main thing I have learned is the more scheduled we keep things the happier we all are, and the smoother the house runs.
Wow! I'm very impressed by how organized you seem to be with your time.
ReplyDeleteI can see that you have a pretty good routine, I have heard that children thrive on that.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. You definitely put a lot of thought in organizing your day. It's great that Michael helps a lot at home too despite his demanding job.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear I'm not the only one who lets their kids watch cartoons. It sometimes feels like no one in the blogging world lets their kids watch TV.
ReplyDeleteI need to work on a schedule of some sort. That's one of my goals coming up.
Very nice schedule! I do notice my kids are happiest when we have fall into a predictable routine.
