Vacations

As many of you know we are now off on our vacation. We are in Spokane, my hometown. Funny thing about Spokane, while this truly was the only place I knew as a child, it was also a place I could not wait to get away from. I have what some may call a love/hate relationship with Spokane.

When I was a child growing up, we lived in a section that was and still is called Morgan Acres. It is a section that was and has remained the last little annexed part of Spokane that still is countrified. We raised chickens, cows, sheep, pigs, and yes boarded horses at times. Out side of some character who enjoyed playing “peeping tom” we had no major worries here. Kids ran and played from morning to night. Funny how I watched Spokane grow and change but this small annexed section looks pretty much the same today as it did when I lived there as a child, outside of a few new houses.

I can say with all honesty, I knew every family who lived in Morgan Acres, and everyone knew who I was and which family I belonged to. I didn’t dare do anything that was wrong as you guessed it, my mom and dad always found out. I had many second families or adoptive mom’s in the neighborhood, so I always knew where I could go if I needed something.

I loved the familiarity of Morgan Acres and when I was just finishing up the 6th grade, my dad decided to sell our home and move to an apartment in the City of Spokane. I can’t say how disappointed and unhappy I was. Life for me in Spokane changed over night, and to be quite honest never was the same. It only drew a huge empty pit inside of me, and a huge desire to leave Spokane for good.

I love to visit Spokane, and it’s familiarity and yes, I still have a lot of friends there yet, I don’t think you would ever see me live there again. I have a lot of things I desire to show Selena while we are in Spokane, areas that I grew to love, with many great stories and history behind them, but I am going to leave that for another post.

We will be coming via Kennewick, WA where we will visit with my oldest brother. Our plans were to come home on Friday, but if my brother has his way we won’t come home until Sunday. We have compromised and will come home on Saturday. This will be a great trip for Selena as she will see many new things.

  3. I know what you mean about how a small move can totally change where you live.

I hope you're having a good vacation, and I'm praying for your family and you still.
