What We Are Reading

Selena and I were able to walk to the library on Thursday, it was such a beautiful sunny day. We are so in the mood for Summer to arrive!

Hellosun

I picked up Hello Sun by Dayle Ann Dodds, Illustrations by Sachiko Yoshikawa because it reminded me of the weather here, and I thought it would be a story that Selena would be able to relate to. It is a story about a young girl who wakes up to sunshine, dresses for the day and just as she is ready to leave, the weather changes to cloudy, she has to redress, only to have the weather change again. It is a cute story, a simple read with great illustrations. This book was a huge hit with Selena, and she announced, “This is what we face everyday!”

foreverdog

Selena picked out The Forever Dog by Bill Cochran and illustrations by Dan Andreasen. This was a book that I wish I would have spent more time looking through. The beginning of the book is really cute and Selena enjoyed reading about this little boy that has a puppy and how he cares for the puppy, from feeding, playing to sleeping. Then you get into the second half of the book and it deals with the loss of the puppy. We stopped at the half way part, which didn’t upset Selena at all. I would not recommend this book unless you are going through the loss of a puppy or dog.

Lost

Lost in the Woods by Carl R. Sams II & Jean Stoick was the hit of the week. It is beautifully illustrations and in most pictures they look like professional photographs just bringing the animals to life. It is a story about a fawn that gets lost from it’s mom. The fawn encounters many different animals in the wild, from a mouse to a raccoon. The adventures and reactions of this little fawn are so adorable and yes, it has a happy ending.

I am linking this up to Mouse Grows Mouse Learns and Feed Me Books Friday.

  1. Lost in the Woods looks really cute, and I think Matthew would like it and Hello, Sun! The puppy book looks interesting... our neighbor's dog just died and we still haven't told Matthew - he was very, very attached to their dog. I'll have to keep this in mind when we do tell him. Thanks!

  2. Okay, Forever Dog may not have been good for you, but I have a friend who just had to put her dog down, and so I immediately wrote down that book for her to get her kids.
If you liked Lost in the Woods, the same author/photographer wrote "Stranger in the Woods."

And, I am still jealous you can walk to the library.

  3. Thanks for joining WMCIR! It's great that Selena could really connect to the first story and see herself in it. Anna would only agree to stop in the story if she found it scary. Otherwise she wouldn't let me put something down just because I noticed something that I don't want to talk about. Believe me - I tried :)

  5. If you like Lost in the Woods, you'll have to check out Stranger in the Woods, too! That one is a winter story, and the snowman the children have built is the Stranger in the woods. It has amazing photographs, too.
