Early Earth Day

It was such a beautiful and warm day yesterday, so Selena and I headed outside as soon as she woke up from her nap. We spent all afternoon outside. We played ball, went for several walks, ran around and laughed. We soaked up every ounce of sun we could. I thought it would be a good day to talk about Earth Day even though it is not for another week, but here you  never know what the weather will be like from day to day let alone a week out.

Selena made her way to my flower bed, and slowly started playing in the dirt. She was so cute though, because at first she would pick up rocks, if they were dirty she would act all disgusted and try to wipe her hand clean on the grass. It wasn’t long though and she was right into the thick of things digging a hole.

I thought it was quite funny how she managed to dig this hole but never touched the grass and weeds that have began to grow in my flower bed. She then decided she had to find something to grow in her hole, after I explained the dirt wouldn’t grow.

100_2491 What do you suppose she is thinking about?

100_2492 That is right she wanted to move my rhododendron over to her hole. We had to have a talk about why that would be a bit difficult.

100_2499 She decided the hole needed to be deeper, so she started digging some more.

100_2502 She then thought some dandelions might look perfect in her hole. When she discovered these would not work out very well, she was off on another hunt.

100_2507 She found what she wanted, but before she could go get it she had to tell me to be quiet. BECAUSE:

100_2518 She found the neighbor’s rocks! Now she had to find just the right rock, which meant she had to do some searching and so the balancing act began as she walked the rocks to find just the right rock.

100_2516 100_2513 She found the perfect rock, and yes it is now buried in my flower garden. She is now waiting for her rock to grow!

100_2517 Being very proud of the work she did she just couldn’t resist posing for a final picture before resorting to laying on the ground to see what shapes she could find in the few little clouds we had in the sky. She says she seen her feet, a bunny, a frog, and a mushroom. Needless to say we had a great afternoon out in the yard, and also brought in one dirty little girl!

This should somehow segue to a sermon - since Jesus is our "Rock" . . .
    Great post!

  2. Those pictures are so adorable. Perhaps you could surprise Selena by making her rock poking out slowly or maybe planting a flower in this spot. It looks like you had a fantastic day outside.

  3. Sounds like a perfect day! I can't wait to see if the rock grows...... It'd be fun to sneak back later and plant some kind of plant there, and let her decide if that's what the rock grew into.
