Even with Selena having a slight cold we were able to get quite a bit accomplished.
Reading:
Selena is working through the third book in Progressive Phonics, short vowel i. She is almost completed with the book. I have to see how many words she can add to her wall. She is also still enjoying her Boggle Jr.
She loves making up sentences with me and then reading them back, most of the time I make up the little story and she reads.
Math:
Selena continues to strengthen he skills in patterns and grouping. She plays a lot with her pattern puzzles.
We also play Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land. Selena is really good at playing Candy Land. She struggles a bit with Chutes and Ladders, but she is figuring it out.
Writing:
Selena loves working in her Kumon workbooks. She is really starting to want to learn how to write her letters and numbers and I often catch her writing some of them on her own on her Doodle Pad.
Geography/History
We are still having so much fun receiving and sending postcards. We have started our Geography notebook. Selena had so much fun helping me pick out what colors she wanted to use on her scrapbook pages, and helping me glue them on the page. Her coloring is improving. She has also enjoyed spending time with me on the computer learning about the State we are working on.
Art:
We didn’t get as much art as I would have liked to this week. I wanted to do a lot more valentine art, but Selena just wasn’t in the mood for much of it. She did draw a rainbow for us though. She also practiced some cutting skills and insisted I take pictures of her triangle and square she cut, now they are pretty small.
Dance:
This week in Tap Dance, Selena did very well, spending the first 20 minutes paying very close attention. She did run into a little trouble when they asked the girls to try without the instructors, this scared Selena a bit and she got vocal with one of the instructors. She had to come and sit on my lap until the end of class then go and apologize for her attitude. We understood her reaction to being asked to dance by herself since this was only her 4th class, but we would not tolerate her attitude. She is doing very well practicing every day here at home. We are proud of the progress she has made.
Other:
Selena is still doing great in the potty training area, she has asked to not wear pullups at night, but I think we will wait until Summer to try this. I worry she will wet the bed and get cold.
Her Sunday School class is going very well. She is figuring out the structure, and I have to say I really like her teacher. She is very good working with this age group, she even goes as far as to write large letters on the back of their papers so the kids can try to copy them, such as this week was Adam and Eve, so she wrote a large A on the back of the paper. She encourages the children to really focus on their coloring skills, and social skills. Selena already has her memory verse memorized for next Sunday. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

I have an award for your awesome blog! Come on over and claim it!
ReplyDeleteDiego doesn't have much patience for Chutes and Ladders either since he discovered that going down the chutes can make you lose. He does love Candyland. Where did you buy the shape puzzles (tanagrams, I think)? It looks like something that Diego would love to do.
ReplyDeleteThat pattern box looks great. The geography postcards sound great too.
ReplyDeleteAnna was not too interested in structured arts here either. I think she was pretty much "valentined out" in school. Selena's triangle is very nice, and it's great that she is so intent on learning to write. Anna is not really interested in Chutes and Ladder, but Lars made another "walk the board" game for her that requires some minor decision making, and she asks for it every day.
ReplyDeleteWe're struggling with the Progressive Phonics here. I think I'm going to take a break from it for a bit and maybe try something different. I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI really need to work with the kids on verse memorization.
I love that she has such great Sunday School teachers, a great teacher in that area can be a real blessing! Don't worry about dance class, it can be tough to do things "on your own" especially if your shy to begin with! Although, Bravo to you for sticking to your discipline!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great week you had. Sorry to hear Selena had a bit of a cold. I've debated using the Progressive Phonics. Not sure what I want to do yet. Just wondering if you have any details in another post about Selena's "wall."
ReplyDeleteBlessings
I'll have to drag out our pattern blocks again. Ours have been stashed for a bit. I'm sure that they'll be "fresh" again now. I've found lots of neat patterns online to print out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I'm looking forward to meeting others who are doing preschool with their kids...and grandkids. What a wonderful thing you are doing and I can tell she is a wonderful blessing to you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great week. I love that she made you take a picture of her triangle!
