With today being Veterans Day we decided to do our stART project a day early and theme it around Veterans Day. We started out the morning watching the Memorial at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. We discussed what Veterans Day is all about and who all in our families have served in the military, fighting for our Freedom.
We sang the following songs:
America, the Beautiful Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory My Country Tis of Thee The Star Spangled Banner
I am actually Dedicating this to ALL VETERANS!
Selena’s family members to be honored:
Zachary Taylor (lost his life in the Civil War) James Taylor WWII, Harold Taylor WWII, Clarence Taylor WWII,
Loel Taylor WWII, Lester Ingold WWII, Bill Lance Korean War, Ken Taylor Vietnam War, Bill Taylor Vietnam War,
Rodger Flatt, Vietnam War, Jerry Flatt Vietnam War, Brent Huston, Vietnam War (To just mention a few, I am sure there were many more through the years who served our Country)
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR STONG MEN AND WOMEN WHO CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM!!!

I am impressed that you know your family history so far back. I can only go to the beginning of the 20th century on both sides. I am sure that you will raise Selena to honor her ancestors and other people fallen in wars.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you are teaching Selena to love the men and women who keep us safe.
ReplyDeleteThey don't even teach the Pledge of Allegiance in schools anymore. =(
This is wonderful. I love all that you did in this post with Selena. I wish I'd thought to do this in our homeschool today as well. Kind of sad I didn't. I really, really like this lesson.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! So glad your kids are learning the pledge, they do still teach it at our school. I know I am luckly in this respect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice idea to connect Veterans Day into your family history. And, it looks like Selena managed fifty stars on her flag - I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteShe did a great job! Thank you for linking up :0)
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I love your flag and it's so awesome that you know your family's history.
ReplyDeleteI love this and that you are teaching these things to Selena. It's a timely reminder that I need to do the same with Matthew!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great message and lesson to teach her!
ReplyDeletewhat a really great project for her!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet idea :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to commemorate the day. This year for Veterans Day we read America's White Table by Margot Theis Raven.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I love that you pulled from your own family history too.
