Open Ended Art Orange and Black?

Mommyswise

This weeks Open Ended Art is the colors Orange and Black. Well we got the Orange in there. With the blustery weather that has finally arrived here, I decided to give into Selena’s one desire, to buy a PUMPKIN! I thought what a better way to spend a rainy windy day then baking fresh pumpkin pies. I know I know pumpkins come later in the month for Open Ended Art, but don’t worry I am prepared for that one too!

We ran out real quick yesterday morning before the weather got real nasty and mailed our Pass It On packages, so I surprised Selena with a quick trip to our neighborhood grocery store, where I stood in the rain trying to persuade Selena to get the pumpkin I wanted and not the largest one she seen! We didn’t need that much pumpkin!

Selena was so excited, at this point she doesn’t realize I have already cut the top of the pumpkin! I loved the way she had to give it a hug!

100_1625 100_1626 I told Selena we needed to get the pumpkin from inside it’s shell. Here she is with a spoon trying to figure out how she is suppose to do this!

100_1628 Surprise!

She actually dug right in to play with the seeds! Believe me she didn’t get very dirty though and asked for a bowl, as she was going to make pumpkin pie. She put all the seeds in a bowl!

100_1635 She stirred and stirred!

Now this is where I cut the pumpkin up and put it in a pot of water on the stove and steamed it until the pumpkin got good and soft, then took it out of the water to cool.

100_1639 Once it was cool enough to handle I removed the pumpkin from it’s shell, or whatever you want to call it. Through this process Selena kept taking in deep long breaths and would squeal, Ohhhh I smell Pumpkin! She didn’t like how it tasted at this point though, and decided to spit it out into my hand!

100_1640 I purified it in my Blender, so it was smooth and not stringy.

Here is the recipe I used:

4 eggs slightly beaten                                                1 teaspoon cinnamon

3 cups Pumpkin                                                           1/2 teaspoon ginger

1 and 1/2 cup sugar                                                    1/4 teaspoon cloves

1 teaspoon salt                                                         2 cans evaporated milk

Now I used Pillsbury already made pie crust instead of my homemade crust.

Mix filling ingredients in order given. Make sure when you put the pie crusts into your pie tins to make a large high fluted edge. Pour mixture into pie shells. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 45 minutes or until knife inserted into center of pie filling comes out clean. Cool. Great with whipped cream!
