"b" "d" Confusion

Selena has never had a problem with mixing up "b" and "d", but for some reason yesterday as we were working on the letter "d" she kept calling it a "b". I know that these two letters are easily confusing for children just learning. I heard this little jingle, but I do not remember where I heard it from that is suppose to help with this confusion. I used it with Selena and it was a great success, now she sings it to remind herself which letter she is looking at.

A line and a circle is a "b".
A circle and a line is a "d".
That is all it is. Sing it to any tune that sounds right to you.
I must add though when we were working on this, I wrote the letter "b" left a space and wrote the letter "d". Selena stopped me and said, "Grandma we need an "e"." I asked her where? She pointed to the space, so I wrote an "e" there so now we had b e d. Selena informed me now we have a bed. I sure couldn't argue with that one.

  1. WOW!! This is super!! She is doing great. Joe is no where near blending or forming words yet. You should be super proud!

Joe often confuses "b" and "d" too. So did Hanna.

  2. Yes, b and d are the only two lowercase letters that Anna confuses. I think this song will help her tell them apart easier. Selena is such a bright girl!

  3. Matthew confuses those two letters too. I love the little poem; now I just have to help him learn that we go left to right or it won't help! Thanks for sharing this!
