Green Slime Day 2

We pulled down the green slime yesterday. We discovered it had dried and was not as slimy.

Selena quickly discovered that if she poked her finger into it she could leave an indent, but that indent quickly filled back in with the slime. This was telling her that there was still some liquid or gooey properties. She suggested that we put a little bit in the microwave. I asked her what she thought would happen and she thought it would melt.

The picture on the left is before we put it in the microwave. The one on the right is after we had it in the microwave for 10 seconds. It did indeed start to liquefy a little but not what Selena expected. We added this back into the bowl and I suggested adding a little water.

100_5631 At this point the more Selena worked with it the more it started becoming gooey again. She thought it was cool the way she could pick it up as a solid piece and it would quickly become gooey and drip back into the bowl.

Actually the bottom bowl shows this a little better, I just couldn’t catch Selena with a glob in her hand. You can obviously see that it has somewhat of a solid form, but is quickly almost like melting into a liquid form, only to turn solid again. I do think we might do more with this when Papa gets home. If we discover anything new expect a Green Slime #3 post.

I have to say I kept chuckling to myself throughout this experiment. My nephew found his mom’s turkey gravy to be disgusting. He always said it was just a bowl of gooey slime….why? Well, simply put she would just take the turkey drippings and add cornstarch to thicken it up. By the next day it was just a gooey glob. I hope he takes the time to read this post.
