Another Discovery/Surprise

Selena and I were outside playing the other day. I wanted to go into the house and get some more water. As I walked through the walkway to the door something moved before my feet. I yelled at Selena to come see.

Here she is so bravely looking for our little surprise. She looks so unsure of herself, it cracked me up. You’ve probably guessed what we found. Let me give you another hint, Selena said when she first laid her eyes on it, “A slithering….”

We discovered a Black Racer Snake. Picture courtesy Google, since I couldn’t get my camera on and set before it slithered away into this.

No matter how hard I looked and even poked around a bit that snake would not come back out. It had slithered right under the roots of this bush. I guess you know we will be keeping our eyes open to see if we can see it again. I am truly excited to see if we can find it or another so we can study it a little closer. It just took us both a little by surprise, but then for me, they always take me by surprise, since I am so snake brave.

  1. Hi! Hope you are doing well! We discovered a snake in our garden not too long ago - and I am glad it slithered away, too!

  2. WOW. You are "snake brave" whether you know it or not!! I'm pretty good with everything but snakes. However that may be cuz I'm snake-dumb. I never know which is which -so I could be bit and killed for all I know.
So studying them with Selena sounds like a good way to go! =^D

  3. I had one under our trash can that scared the bejeezus out of me because I totally wasn't expecting it there and had thought at first it was one of those rubber ones. And then it moved.

  4. Eeek - I wouldn't be nearly as brave. I am grateful I've never encountered snakes in our garden.
