The Homeschool Mother’s Journal # 6

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

I have been so busy this week at the church. We are getting ready for a rummage sale to support a Missions Team that is going to South Asia this summer. I have now been through ever box and every storage closet in our church organizing. While doing this I have also been organizing my Sunday school classroom, by moving all the arts and crafts supplies into my room.

Here at home though I have been tired, life continues to go on. Playing with Selena, and seeing so much growth in her this week. She is beginning to mature and lose some of that baby attitude that we have been dealing with. I know that she is desiring to do school, so instead we have been putting our energy into a lot of games that review everything we have covered this last year.

I am truly looking forward to a break, but am also very aware that as soon as this rummage sale is over, then we will be off and running again finishing up the planning for VBS. I do have to say this business has kept my mind off the fact that we truly are not having any summer weather.

In our homeschool this week…

It is easy to say at this point we are in a full fledge Summer break. Though we did get the opportunity to take a field trip to a beautiful lake and rainforest near our home. I do though know that even through a break, Selena is learning everyday, maturing, having fun, and learning what it means to serve the Lord.

My favorite thing this week was…

Listening to Selena play teacher, and teaching all the materials we have covered over the past school year. Well, she didn’t cover all the materials, but she definitely was teaching a good share of her reading, math, science, and geography. Now if only we can get the hand writing to start in.

I must add here that watching how much improvement there has been in how Selena brushes her own teeth. It always amazes me when a child can finally start putting all these little things together especially where the fine motor skills are concerned and do something that requires that little extra skill.

Out of all my business I almost missed seeing my rhododendron tree in full bloom. This is right out side my kitchen window. I have a rhododendron bush in front of the house, but while it did bloom, it wasn’t as pretty this year due to the cooler temps and lack of sun. When I got up yesterday morning and looked out my kitchen window to this beautiful site it reminded me that even when we are very busy we do have to take some time to stop and smell the roses and take in the beauty around us.

I was wondering what the rummage sale was for. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

  4. Yay for summer break. It's great to be able to enjoy outdoors more. I am just hoping that everyone stays healthy, so we can start going to the pool.
