The Homeschool Mother’s Journal #1

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In My Life This Week:

I enjoyed the opportunity to get outdoors this week and enjoy some sunshine and photographing. It took the blahs out of all the driving I had to do this week. Took some time to plan our summer studies.

In Our Homeschool This Week:

We did a lot of spontaneous learning this week, in the car. Working on counting up over 100. This is a fun game for young kids learning to count, Mom counts 1,2 then the child has to count 3,4 and so forth as high as they can go.

We looked at Mississippi and wrote a story about birds. Discussed everything we would love to do and study this summer. Selena informed me that it doesn’t matter so long as we are out in the nature, oh and she wants to go back and see the river waters, so long as they are not flooding this time.

My Favorite Thing This Week:

Having the opportunity to visit with both of my older children. As well as finding out that my daughter and my newest grandson will be traveling out to see us in July. Just hearing from both of my children in one week and knowing all is well with them means the world to me.

What’s working/Not working for us:

Being more spontaneous on our studies really seems to be the key here. Selena is a live in the moment little person. She doesn’t want to wait to learn about things she is interested in. The problem with this is I have to get my curriculum ideas, stock piled and ready to pull out as she is ready to go. While I feel I am getting pretty prepared for more of an almost unschool look and feel here in the home, I am still looking for just the right math and writing curriculum.

Homeschool questions or thoughts I have:

I think the one thing that really bothers me, for as popular has homeschooling is becoming you would think that for once homeschool would be considered a real word. Ever notice how it always shows up as misspelled, unless you write it as home school, or if you use it as homeschooling, homeschooled or homeschoolers? Why is that. I just for once would like to type “My Homeschool” without being told that I have misspelled the word homeschool.

A Photo, video, link, or quote to share:

Our Spring is slowly arriving. Selena loves to just stop and smell all the flowers she sees. As we have heard many times, “Take the time to stop and smell the roses.” Well in this case the flowers.

  1. Sounds like spontaneity works for you! I agree with the "homeschool" peeve. It's really stupid that all forms except that one are accepted.

  2. Ooops! Meant to mention I'm here from the Homeschool Mother's Journal.

  3. I agree that drives me nuts too

    Love that picture of Selena

  4. I bet you're excited at the chance to see your new grandson, and for Selena to meet her brother - time to stock up on the sibling themed books. You're still on my prayer list!

  5. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my post! Cute photo of Selena! Have a great week!

  6. I always liked seeing this meme on other blogs. I am glad you are doing it too. It really gives a look into your life. Good luck finding a good curriculums for Selena.

  7. This meme looks like fun. I couldn't agree with you more about the spontaneity thing. I've been trying to be more structured but it's not as effective with K. She loves to discover her own learning which I think is good. Pulling things out when needed is exactly requires even more preparation. Luckily, with one, it's easier to do.

As for homeschool, my spell checker won't recognize it so sometimes it comes out as home school. Annoying but I guess it can go either way.

  8. Great post...I like the idea of "The Homeschool Mother's Journal".

Spontaneity works really well for my girls, especially Lauren.

I completely agree with the irritation about the word "homeschool". It drives me bananas!
