What My Child Is Reading

When we were at the library the last time, Selena combed through all the shelves, so many times she plays in the play corner, colors at the table or just grabs books off the shelves randomly and brings them to me. This time however she was on a mission, she browsed all the books so very carefully. I knew she found what she was looking for when she squealed. She brought over Together by Hazel Hutchins, illustrations by Alice Priestly.

61A0pPLvwGL._SL500_AA300_ We had read this book sometime ago and I reviewed it here on the What My Child is Reading link up. This by far has been one of Selena’s favorite books, I do believe that is based on the fact that she found it. As soon as we came home she went through the stack of books until she found it, and again squealed. It is a easy read with cute illustrations introducing new words such as zipper, clip, velcro anything that keeps things together including the hugs that keep us together as a family. I love the fact that Selena is discovering that the library truly is a place for more then just playing with new toys, not that she didn’t know that it was a place to get books, but now she knows by taking a little bit of time and really looking she too can find some real treasures.

While Selena truly enjoyed the story, she refused to allow me call Pinkalicious anything but by her real name. When I first read the title to her she informed me “No this is not Silverlicious but Pinkalicious.” The story is very cute about how Pinkalicious becomes Silverlicious after she looses her tooth and discovers that it was her sweet tooth, nothing sweet sounds good at all. She decides to ask the tooth fairy for something sweet until her new tooth comes in only to discover in the end that the sweetness truly comes from within, and that it was through her attitude that she lost her sweetness.

51E6WN7WPJL._SL500_AA300_ I picked up Wet Pebbles under our feet by Manya Stojic wondering if Selena would relate it to our trips to the beach. It is a cute story about a little girl who is traveling to see her grandparents. As she is traveling her family tells her a story she has heard many times basically the story of her Mom and Uncles when they grew up on the Island where her grandparents live. They talk about all their fond memories of the Island, when they get there the little girl takes off her shoes to feel the wet pebbles under her feet. This story is a reminder that the stories of our childhood that we share with our children, and the places we take them truly is a treasure of pure joy to them.

  1. Oh that last book sounds super cute. I'll have to remember it for one of the states on the coast, or see if I can figure out which state it's taking place in.

  2. Your review of Together reminded me of another book about families we like called "All Kinds of Families" by Mary Ann Hoberman.

We also read Silverlicious a few weeks back. My daughter is getting anxious about loosing her teeth.

  3. It looks like you had a great time in the library. Anna also enjoyed Silverlicious, I think it's her favorite from this series. She didn't like Purplicious at all. Thanks for joining WMCIR!
