What My Child Is Reading

We had a great week of reading here. Selena still is hanging onto many of her books from last week as her favorites, but warmly added several more to her daily reading list.

Courage by Bernard Waber was a huge hit in our home. Natalie from Mouse Grows Mouse Learns recommended this book, and I have to say we were not disappointed. Selena enjoyed the artwork, and related to many events in the book that calls for courage, especially the one about getting a hair cut. She pointed out after that it took great courage to climb the lighthouse, all those stairs, then back down again. She also expressed it takes a lot of courage to get up in front of the congregation at church every Sunday…now that I question since she sits on the edge of her seat waiting for Pastor to call the kids up, then she takes off running. This truly is a great book to explain how we use courage everyday in our lives.

Selena really enjoyed this book and thought it was so neat that Lissy could make all sorts of friends from paper. She also enjoyed the end when Lissy’s friends all blew away, but then suddenly came the real friends. Selena wasn’t in the mood long enough this week to sit and see if we could do some origami together, but somehow I think it will be coming for as many times as she is found reading this book and examining all the friends that Lissy has made.

She loves this song when it is sang in church. You can listen to it here on YouTube. Selena at first did not realize this book was actually the song she loves so well, until she sat down and began to read it to me. After a couple of pages, her eyes got bright and a huge smile came on her face as she exclaimed, “My favorite song.” However all the songs sang in church is her favorite song.

I do want to say that Selena was a busy little girl and did help out a lot the last couple of days as I cleaned the nursery at the church. She busied herself by running from the nursery to the classroom across the hall. When we came home I discovered I have a new water bottle.

  1. Thanks for joining WMCIR! All three books sound great, and I am happy that Selena liked courage. Your post reminded me that I wanted to order Lissy's Friends through InterLib. We read and liked many other books by Gracy Lin, but our library didn't have this one.

  2. We picked up Courage too, but it wasn't a big hit here. I'm glad Selena liked it! And I love the water bottle!
