How Did She Get So Tall?

100_3489

We made a discovery this week, Wow has Selena gotten tall. She is now 3 feet 4 1/2 inches tall. We use to keep certain things that we didn’t want her getting, but that we wanted available on top of the piano. For instance that is where I would put my cell phone, or camera. This week Selena discovered if she stands on one of her bins for her toys which is about 6 inches deep, she can reach what ever is close enough to the edge of the top of our piano, yes, she still has to stand on her tippy toes, but nothing is off limits to her anymore. Now let’s think about this, the piano is 4 feet 6 inches tall. I just can’t believe she is so tall. It wasn’t but a week ago that she couldn’t get anything off the piano, that was my safe haven for things.

Of course this means she is heavier as well. Believe me my back and arms tell me this every time I have to lift her for some reason or another. Why can’t someone just come up with a way to stop these growth spurts, just for a little bit. Oh I know that is impossible, but I still can’t believe how fast it happens. They go to bed and over night they grow in leaps and bounds. Of course you know this means new clothes. Which is the best part to Selena, she loves going clothes shopping.

This week there has not only been a growth spurt, but the realization of a little girl who loves to communicate. At Church she informed Pastor he had a beautiful tie. He commented on her vocabulary, and she announced, “Yes I have a great vocabulary.” He asked her what color his tie was, and she looked at him, “Well it is red with stripes, didn’t you know what color your tie is?” We all couldn’t resist but laugh.

After church all the way home she was singing, “Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, there is a fountain that flows away.” I guess you know we had to spend some time learning the correct words to this song. Now she has it down pat.

One day Selena asked if we could have a baby. I asked her if she wanted a baby brother or sister. She informed me she wanted a baby sister. I told her I didn’t think this would be happening and I really didn’t think Papa would want another baby. She looked up at me and said, “Well, I have Garret.”

This led to a game of playing mommy, but I had to be the baby. I laid on the floor as she wrapped me up in a blanket. She sat there and just stared at me with a warm smile on her face. I asked her where my diaper was, she told me it was in the dryer. I asked her well, what if I have to potty, she said, “Hurry, get up come to the bathroom!”

Then she decided she wanted to be the baby. I wrapped her up in the blanket, and was holding her in my arms, I said oops I forgot the diaper, babies wear diapers you know. She immediately jumped up and announced, “No, way I am not wearing a diaper anymore.” That was the end of the game.

I just love how children grow and mature, but it saddens me when it has to happen to mine. They just grow up too fast.

  1. You got me curious so I measure C - who's 4 years 3 months, and now 3 feet 7 3/4 inches - yikes!

  3. It's so amazing to see our children grow. There was a growth spurt here very recently too, and now my parents are giving me a hard time because some of Anna's clothes don't fit any longer. I enjoyed reading about your game of mommy and baby.

  4. AWWWWWWWWW, so sweet. I really enjoyed reading this post. I know what you mean; I love that my children are growing, but it seems like it happens so fast. Sometimes I just wish I could hold on to the moments. My oldest is 13 and I don't even know where the time went.

My daughter loves shopping for new clothes too!
