Geography/History In Review

geographyhistory

Natalie at Mouse Grows Mouse Learns was so excited when she found these wonderful flash cards about the United States and another set about Landmarks around the World. She was so gracious and sent Selena a set of each.

Unitedstates landmarks

I thought it would be fun to just take a look at the cards for the States we have studied thus far in our Geography. Selena had other ideas and only wanted to look at California and Alabama. She found the two States easily on her map and also in her scrapbook. She then examined each card and was delighted to discover that the cards had the same State flag she had in her book along with the State seal.

100_3480100_3478 It always amazes me just how quickly she can identify the States on her map, and make such detailed comparisons. Skills she will need in all her studies, Math, Science, and Reading.

Now it is your turn to share with us what you and your child studied in Geography or History this week.

  1. Natalie is so nice! We picked up those landmark cards at Target, I need to get them out for my kids.

  2. We finally made it into a Target the other day, and I made a bee line to those, but they had so many great ones, that I was grabbing them all - and my rule of thumb is whenever I find myself grabbing, and snatching school supplies, or books, I put everything back, and walk straight out of the store :)

  3. I bought some of those landmark flashcards this week. Then I played a game with my grandma, my cousin, and my husband where I flashed the card and they had to call it out if they knew it. My grandma won but its wonder (she's been around longer than the rest of us). Then we were laughing because we noticed my husband kind of resembles the statues from Easter Island lol.

  5. I am glad that Selena liked the cards. I showed Anna one for California, but she was not thrilled with State cards - a lot less than landmark cards. I wish State cards had a picture of a famous place from that State, not just dry facts.

  6. We have those state cards and the landmark cards. We got them a couple years ago for C and he loved them. He would just sit and look at them on his own all the time. He ended up able to locate most of the states on an unmarked map because he knew the shapes from those flashcards. And he learned about so many different landmarks.

  7. We got the landmark ones, but the state ones were just dry facts and I wasn't super excited by them.

We have nothing exciting to report for geography/history this week. Hopefully this next week I'll have something. I was just uninspired last week in school in general. It's so sad.

  8. Love the sound of those flashcards.
As I find more and more posts that bring up great finds discovered at Target I wish we lived closer to one.
Selena definitely knows what she wants, huh. She is doing such a great job.
