Preschool Corner/Weekly Wrap up

PreschoolCornersidebarbutton210[3]

It was so nice to be back in school this week, after our much needed break. Selena was so excited about it that work actually was a little difficult for her to focus on. She wanted to rush through her work, not so much as to get it done, but out of her excitement to be back. So with that said I didn’t get a lot of pictures taken, I wanted her attention on settling back in to her school work.

She did get through quite a few workbook pages, since we are not only working through our curriculum workbook but a new workbook she received for Christmas that is geared more for gifted/talented children. I love this workbook as it is really allowing me to see what Selena knows and understands.

We did start out the week with a little art box fun.

100_1922 Selena’s cutting skills are improving quite a bit, but she amazed me, she has always used her right hand for everything. This time she used her left hand for cutting and actually did much better. Yet she refuses to use her left hand for writing or eating. I still don’t think she has decided if she will be a lefty or a righty.

Her first issue of High Five rolled in this week. She has had so much fun looking through that and doing all the activities in it. This magazine is going to be a great compliment to our homeschooling experience.

She is begging for her phonics again. We have been working on the Progressive Phonics reading it on the computer. Again in order for Selena to earn words for her phonics wall she has to demonstrate, that she can read them in the book, then demonstrate that she can sound them out and put the sounds together to form the word from the flash cards, some have been no brainers for her and she just shouts the words out, so she gets the word to glue on her phonics wall. While we only added 8 words to her wall, I know there are more that she knows, we are still just settling in and getting our focus back.

She loves her McGuffy reader, and reads from it every night, as well as some newly found books that I had stashed away, that has suddenly appeared. She has gone from not wanting to read much through December to not being able to get enough reading in here lately.

We have been doing so much life school, that so much of the other topics has come through her play, talking, and other things we do. She is becoming more confident in her abilities now and freely uses her skills all the time.

  2. So, I am going to have to check out High Five, I'm not familiar with it.

Selena is so smart Debbie! I love reading what she is doing and how she is progressing, especially in her reading.

  3. We got High Five too for Anna :) She loved it, especially the game in the end, but was indifferent to Hidden Pictures. It's great that Selena is so enthusiastic about her reading and other school subjects.

  4. High Five is on my list of magazines I want to get a subscription to. I pick it up from time to time at the store, and the kids always love it.
