stART Down by The Sea

I discovered stART last week and fell in love with the idea that A Mommy's Adventure came up with and just had to be apart of this creative way of combining Story Time and Art.

After our trip to the beach Saturday Selena and I have been reading poetry from "A Child's Garden of Verses" by Robert Louis Stevenson. One of the Poems we focused on and used for this project is "At The Sea"
I wrote the poem down on a piece of poster board then at the bottom left an area for Selena to display all the things she found on our adventure to the beach. She had fun getting everything lined up just the way she wanted them.

This is our finished project. She preferred to not glue the items to the poster board, because she still wanted to put them back in her basket of treasures. So now all her treasures are packed back away and she truly had fun with this activity and I am sure we will participate again.

  1. Nice project and yet another example of your "whole language" approach :) It's nice that Selena could link her treasures to this classic verse.

  2. What a wonderful project. We will be going to the beach for a church retreat in October and I would love to do something like this with Emily. Thank you for sharing! I am so glad you were able to join in this week :0)

  3. What a great way to reinforce the ocean learning-a field trip, a poem, and an art project. I love it!

  5. What a wonderful project idea! I could see doing something similar with other types of verses from nursery rhymes or songs. Great idea!
