My Dearest Selena

100_4845

It is sometimes hard to believe that you are now 4 1/2 years old. Sometimes I just feel like if I close my eyes hard enough you will magically return to that baby or even the 2 year old that was so sweet, curious, outgoing, and my cuddle bug. While you still have all of these qualities, they are now wrapped up in a very energetic, independent, and bright big girl.

The last 6 months have brought on many growth spurts, personality changes, and new abilities, that just shine. While at times your independence, and stubbornness gets the best of you, given just a little time, you bounce right back to that happy fun loving little girl.

I love how you meet challenges head on. You don’t let anything stop your determination. You are not afraid to try something new, always  a little adventurist. You make friends so easily with that smile and outgoing personality. Age has no boundaries, it just seems you like everyone, and they like you.

I love the way you try so hard to really be a part of the world around you. In Sunday school you are not afraid to raise your hand to answer even the toughest questions. You smile with pride when given the opportunity to throw you answer out there, while it maybe something rather funny, you always stay on topic of what we are discussing. You have just enough of a competitive drive that keeps you wanting to try to learn what the others around you might already know. This is going to take you far, you will always hunger for knowledge, and enjoy learning with these qualities.

While this has been a difficult spring for us, and summer just doesn’t seem to be coming to our neck of the woods, you always bring so much sunshine into our home with your bright smile and that never ending sparkle in your eyes. You never give up hope that the sun will be shining the weather will be warm when you wake up of a morning. I know it has been difficult for you as you have seen the changes taking place outside, the trees finally getting leaves, some flowers blooming, but the cool, wet, and rainy weather has prevented our usual outside exploration. Just hang in there sweetie, we will take advantage of whatever nice weather we get.

I love watching you grow, and seeing so many qualities unfold into a very bright girl. While at times you are quite a handful, testing your boundaries, your abilities, and attitude, I truly wouldn’t change one thing about you. Yes, it is OK for you to think your going on 10 at times, and Yes, it is OK when you want to feel like your only 4. These emotional changes you are experiencing is normal and natural, while at times we bump heads, I know that these times need to take place for you to continue to grow and find your individuality in this world around you. I might not always like what you do or your actions, but I will always love you, for who you are, who you will become, and for the joy you bring into my life daily. I wouldn’t want to miss a day of watching you grow.

Love, Grandma!

  2. I love this writing a letter to her. What a special thing for her to have years from now! We always think we'll remember all these things, but sadly the memories do tend to fade.
